Software Engineering Manager at Umbra

James Burnell has worked in the software engineering and web development fields since 2008. James began their career as a Music Producer for Jimmy Burns, DJ Skywalkerr, performing on several tours and achieving over half a million plays on their original songs on Soundcloud and over 200k plays on Youtube. In 2013, they moved into web development, becoming a Web Developer for BB Web Services, where they lead the development of mobile and web apps, e-commerce, personal, portfolio, small business, and community based websites. James also architected the Butterfli App, a social media aggregation and content management platform, with React and immutable data types to improve UI performance handling large scale data. In 2015, they held two roles, Software Engineer for 3DSlides.io and Technical Mentor for Codesmith. At 3DSlides.io, they worked on a web application that allowed users to make a 3d presentation in the browser. At Codesmith, they prepared and presented lectures on efficient solutions to complex algorithm challenges, provided detailed code reviews, designed and performed technical interviews, and provided technical mentorship on advanced JavaScript concepts, computer science, application architecture, and React application state management. In 2016, they became a Senior Developer and Developer for TBWA\\Media Arts Lab. Finally, in 2019, they became a Software Engineering Manager and Senior Software Engineer I for Umbra.

James Burnell attended the University of Colorado Boulder from 2008 to 2011, where they studied Business Administration and Management, General. James then attended Codesmith for Computer Software Engineering. In 2015, they attended UCLA Extension to study Web Page, Digital/Multimedia and Information Resources Design, which they completed in 2016.
