Ximena Saskia Warnaars

Director Of Special Projects at UMI Fund

Ximena Saskia Warnaars, PhD, currently serves as the Director of Special Projects at UMI Fund, a position held since February 2025. Prior experience includes roles at the Ford Foundation, where Ximena was a Senior Global Program Officer in the Natural Resources and Climate Justice Program and the Global Energy and Extractives Industries Lead from June 2016 to January 2025. Ximena also contributed to the Climate and Land Use Alliance as part of the Global Initiative program team and served as the Amazon Program Director at EarthRights International between September 2011 and August 2016. Additional experience includes positions at Global Greengrants Fund, Catholic Relief Services, The University of Manchester as a Doctoral Researcher, CooperAcción, Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos as a lecturer, and the Amazonian Centre for Anthropology and Practical Application. Ximena holds a PhD in Environment and Development from The University of Manchester, alongside Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Social Science - Development Anthropology from Utrecht University, and an early education in Visual and Performing Arts from HKU.
