Associate Professor, Arabic And Islamic Culture

Samer Ali is an Associate Professor of Arabic and Islamic Culture at the University of Michigan, with experience dating back to 2015. In addition to this role, Samer serves as the Moderator-Owner of the Cairo Scholars Listserv, which facilitates cultural exchange in Cairo for students and scholars. Previous positions include directing the Center for Middle Eastern & North African Studies and a fellowship at the Institute for the Humanities. Samer has also held positions as an Associate Professor at the University of Texas at Austin, where mentoring students in Arabic literature and culture was a key responsibility. Earlier career highlights include being an ACTFL OPI Tester for Arabic and serving as Book Review Editor for the Journal of Arabic Literature. Samer Ali holds a PhD in Arabic Language and Literature from Indiana University Bloomington, alongside a Master's in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Utah and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Chicago.
