United Nations Convention To Combat Desertification Unccd National Focal Point at UN Convention to Combat Desertification

Karma Dema Dorji serves as the Programme Director at the National Biodiversity Centre since January 2021, and holds several key roles with the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) as the National Focal Point and a committee member at the Science and Policy Interface. Additionally, Karma chairs the Annex II Group for the Asia-Pacific Region and participates in the Intergovernmental Working Group for the Future Strategic Framework for UNCCD, all under the National Soil Services Centre, Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF), Bhutan. Previous experience includes a tenure as Program Director at the National Soil Services Centre from January 2009 to January 2021 and leadership roles in sustainable land management projects supported by the GEF/World Bank and GEF/UNDP from 2006 to 2010. Academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Soil in relation to Environment from FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, an MPhil in Soil Science from the University of Reading, and a Bachelor of Agricultural Sciences (Hons) from The University of Western Australia.
