Chief, Communications, External Relations And Partnerships at UN Convention to Combat Desertification

Xenya Cherny Scanlon has a diverse work experience spanning various organizations. Xenya is currently working with the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, where they hold the position of Chief, Communications, External Relations and Partnerships. Prior to this, they worked as Chief, Communications at the same organization.

Before their current role, Xenya served as the Strategic Communications Partnership Committee Manager for the RBM Partnership to End Malaria at UNOPS.

Xenya is also the Founder and CEO of green stilettos, a sustainable fashion and lifestyle consultancy that aims to combine glamour with environmental consciousness. Xenya held this position from November 2012 to January 2019.

In addition, Xenya worked as the Director of Communications at the Right Livelihood Award Foundation, overseeing global communications for the renowned "Alternative Nobel Prize." Xenya held this position from September 2015 to September 2017.

Earlier in their career, Xenya served as Special Adviser to the Director General at IUCN and Head of World Parks Congress Communications. Xenya played a key role in leading strategic communications for the IUCN World Parks Congress 2014.

Xenya also has experience working with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as an Information Officer in the Division of Communications and Public Information. Xenya worked at UNEP from April 2008 to April 2010.

Furthermore, Xenya worked as a Programme Officer in the Urban Environment Unit at the United Nations Environment Programme from August 2007 to February 2008.

Prior to their work at the UN, Xenya served as a Team Leader/Writer/Editor at the International Institute for Sustainable Development from January 2005 to August 2007.

Xenya also gained experience as a Freelance Reporter for Reuters from April 2005 to October 2005.

Xenya started their career as a Global Media Relations Officer at the International Union for Conservation of Nature from September 2001 to December 2004.

With a wealth of experience in communications, sustainability, and global organizations, Xenya Cherny Scanlon has contributed significantly to promoting environmental causes and sustainable development throughout their career.

Xenya Cherny Scanlon completed their high school education at Lingvisticheskiy licey 1555 from 1992 to 1996, earning a high school diploma. Xenya then pursued further studies at Moscow State Institute of International Relations (University) MFA Russia MGIMO from 1996 to 2001, where they obtained a Master's degree in International Relations and Affairs. In 2015, Xenya completed a Certificate program in Advanced Programme in Luxury Management at HEC Paris.
