Murphy Akpu is an experienced public health professional currently serving as Adviser for Science, Systems and Services at UNAIDS since July 2023. Previously, Murphy held the position of Deputy Country Coordinator at PEPFAR Nigeria from August 2011 to May 2023, where responsibilities included coordinating PEPFAR operations and managing relationships among various stakeholders in Nigeria’s HIV/AIDS response. Earlier experience includes serving as State Team Leader for the ProACT project with Management Sciences for Health, focusing on enhancing government stewardship of HIV/AIDS and TB programs in Kogi State, and as an HIV/AIDS/TB Clinical Service Specialist. Academic qualifications include a Master of Public Health from the University of Liverpool, a Certificate in International Health Consultancy from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, an MPhil in HIV/AIDS Management from Stellenbosch University, a Fellowship in Management Development Institute from the University of Ghana - GIMPA, and an MBBS from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
