Tom Shanahan

Tom Shanahan currently serves as Chief Legal Officer and System Vice President at UNC Health since December 2020. Prior to this role, Tom held significant positions at The University of North Carolina from July 2010 to December 2020, including Senior Vice President for Governance, Legal, and Risk, and General Counsel. Tom's experience also includes a decade at the U.S. Department of Labor, where responsibilities involved Deputy Regional Solicitor and Deputy Regional Director for the Employee Benefits Security Administration. Earlier in Tom's career, Tom worked as Counsel for ERISA and Trial Attorney at Sweat & Giese, PA. Tom holds a JD in Law from The University of Georgia and a BS in Human Development from Cornell University.
