David Levi founded GrowthWorks in January 1999 and launched the initial offering of the Working Opportunity Fund in January 1992. Since that time GrowthWorks has expanded across Canada Managing both Retail and Institutional Venture Capital Funds. The total managed funds, under David’s direction, has grown to over $800 million in assets and has invested over $300 million in more than 100 growth-oriented, entrepreneurial Canadian companies.
Prior to launching WOF, David was chair of VanCity Credit Union, during his tenure he launched the Ethical Growth Fund, Canada’s first Ethically screened Mutual Fund and remained as a director until 1996. He began his career as an investment broker for C.M. Oliver in 1981, and when he left in 1991, he was Vice President, Broker Services. He was a founding partner of Global Securities in 1991 before leaving to start the Working Opportunity Fund.
David currently serves on the boards of two of WOF’s investments, Avcorp Industries (past Chair) and Xantrex Technology and chairs Verite, an independent, non-profit social auditing and research organization. He is also a founding director of Columbia Institute and Foundation as well as Shareholders Association for Research and Education. He is a past executive board member of the Canadian Venture Capital Assoc.
