Alex Lazinica

Alex is an experienced CEO, engineer and robotics/AI scientist, with expertise in business development and building organic distribution channels. He is also a pioneer of the Open Science movement, and co-Founder and Chairman of the Board of IntechOpen, the world’s largest publisher of open access scientific books. After obtaining a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, he continued his Ph.D. in Robotics at the Vienna University of Technology. There, he worked as a robotics researcher within the University’s Intelligent Manufacturing Systems Group, as well as a guest researcher at various European universities, including the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL). Alex published more than 20 scientific papers, gave presentations, served as a reviewer for major robotics journals and conferences, and co-founded the International Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems, the world’s first Open Access journal in the field of robotics. This was a pivotal point in his career, as it was the pathway to the foundation of IntechOpen, with its focus on addressing academic researchers’ needs. Alex personifies many Underline and IntechOpen’s key values, including the commitment to developing mutual trust, openness and a spirit of entrepreneurism. Today, his focus is on defining the growth and development strategy for Underline.
