Thiago Uehara

Thiago Kanashiro Uehara is a Principal Specialist: Nature, People and Development at UNEP-WCMC since September 2023 and serves as Head of Policy. Uehara is also a Senior Research Fellow at FGV EAESP, contributing to FGV-Ethics, a center focused on ethics and compliance studies. Prior experience includes a Research Fellow position at Chatham House, where Uehara led initiatives on global forest governance and climate justice from October 2019 to September 2023. Uehara served as a Senior Policy Researcher for the Brazilian government from 2012 to 2019, primarily focusing on Sustainable Development Goals, and has held various roles related to sustainability policy and research, including visiting researcher and consultant positions. Uehara's academic qualifications include a PhD in Environmental Policy from Imperial College London and a Master of Philosophy in Geography from the University of Cambridge, among other degrees in environmental sciences and governance.
