Marianela Varela Angulo

Marianela Varela Angulo is a dedicated legal professional with extensive experience in refugee protection and legal assistance. Currently serving as a Protection Associate at UNHCR since January 2024, Marianela previously worked with 3iSolution as a Monitoring and Evaluation manager for a UNICEF project focused on migration flows between Colombia and Costa Rica. From June 2020 to September 2023, a role as a Legal Officer at HIAS involved providing legal assistance and representation for refugees at the Paso Canoas and Sabalito border. Prior experience includes a Legal Assistant position at BSA Costa Rican Legal Services, where responsibilities included account management and legal document preparation. Marianela holds a Law degree from Universidad Latina de Costa Rica earned in 2015.
