Fernando de Castro Marques

Mr. Fernando Marques started his career in 1971 in his family's pharmaceutical industry. In 1979, at the age of 25, he became President of the Company, positioning him as one of the main current players in the market. With extensive knowledge in production, he redesigned the drug outsourcing business in Brazil, with the acquisition of the industrial units on Brazil , as a Novartis, Pfizer/Zoetis and Bayer, becoming one of the leading global suppliers of these and another’s companies. Recently, he acquired a biotechnology complex in USA, that produces recombinant bovine somatotropin, making União Química the world leader in production in this segment. With its 9 factories in Brazil and 1 factory in the USA, the União Química is a leader throughout in industrial infrastructure for the human and animal health and the largest Biotechnology Park in Latin America. In a country with continental dimensions such as Brazil, Fernando Marques was the pioneer in own logistics for the medicines distribution. In 2020, the União Química signed partnership with Russian Development Investment Found and Gamaleya Institute for the production of the SPUTINIK V vaccine, for the Latin America markets. União Química has already produced the commercial batches , including Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient - API. Fernando Marques, one of the founders of the pharmaceutical industry in Brazil , currently is the President of Brazilian pharmaceutical industries association.
