Anurita Bains

Anurita Bains is an experienced health leader with a focus on HIV/AIDS, currently serving as Associate Director for Health (HIV/AIDS) at UNICEF since September 2022. Prior to this role, Bains was a UNICEF Representative from July 2014 to July 2022, where significant contributions included supporting the government of Lesotho during the COVID-19 response and recovery. Bains has also held key positions such as HIV/AIDS Regional Adviser for East and Southern Africa, Country Director at the Clinton Health Access Initiative, and Programme Management Coordinator at UNAIDS. With a strong background in policy and programme management, Bains has effectively led advocacy campaigns and provided strategic advice at various levels in prominent health organizations. Bains holds a Master's in Management, Social Policy from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Political Science and English from the University of Toronto.
