Helen McAvoy-James has a diverse work experience in the visual effects industry. Helen started their career as a 3D Modeller at Bluehell Productions in 2011. Later, they worked as a Customer Service Advisor at Transglobal Express Ltd. In 2012, they became a VFX Supervisor on The Drift at Backyard Productions UK. From 2014 to 2015, they worked at Double Negative as a VFX Production Assistant and later as a VFX Production Coordinator. Helen then joined MPC as a VFX Production Coordinator from 2015 to 2017, and subsequently became a VFX Production Manager from 2017 to 2019. Helen then joined Technicolor Creative Studios, where they served as a Customer Success Manager from 2019 to 2021, and later as a Global Engagement Manager in 2021. Helen then worked as a Virtual Production Pipeline Project Manager at Eyeline Studios from 2021 to 2022. In 2022, they joined MPC again, this time as a Global Builds Producer. In 2023, they worked as a Production Supervisor at Dimension Studio, before moving on to become the Head of Production at Union Visual Effects.
Helen McAvoy-James completed their education at Staffordshire University from 2008 to 2011, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree with Honors (BSc(Hons)) in CGI and Animatronics. Prior to that, they attended Birkenhead High School from 2001 to 2008, although no specific degree or field of study is mentioned for this period.
Additionally, Helen McAvoy-James has obtained several certifications. In November 2022, they became a certified Mental Health First Aider through Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England. In September 2022, they earned a Certificate in Operations Management from the London School of Business and Finance LSBF. In April 2022, they received the certification in Accounting Fundamentals from Corporate Finance Institute® (CFI). Their other certifications include Digital Transformation for Leaders from LinkedIn, obtained in August 2020, and Python 3 from Codecademy, acquired in August 2020.
