Cathryn Symons

Cathryn Symons is an accomplished technology leader with extensive experience in transforming and managing IT functions across various organizations. Currently serving as the Head of IT at Unison since September 2025, Cathryn previously held the role of Technology Transition Programme Manager at Refuge from January 2023 to August 2025, where significant restructuring of the technology directorate was achieved. As Director of Technology at Refuge, Cathryn was instrumental in enhancing technology for the national domestic abuse helpline. Earlier roles include Director of Technology and Transformation at Richmond and Hillcroft Adult Community College, IT Director at CDP, and various project management positions across renowned companies. Cathryn's educational background features a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science from Victoria University of Wellington, a Diploma of Business Administration from Massey University, an MSc in Renewable Energy in the Built Environment from the University of East London, and a Graduate Certificate in Geology from Birkbeck, University of London.
