Yajaira Sesmas

Yajaira Sesmas is an experienced community organizer and educator with a strong background in advocacy, tutoring, and program coordination. Currently serving as a Canvasser at UNITE HERE Local 11 since October 2018, Yajaira actively promotes affordable housing and renter’s rights in Santa Monica. Additionally, as a Success Coach at Volunteers of America Los Angeles, responsibilities include tutoring high school students in English and Social Sciences, conducting program recruitment, and coordinating summer programs at Los Angeles Trade Tech College. Yajaira's role as a Family and Youth Engagement Intern with the Los Angeles Unified School District involves outreach for Career Week and engaging students in community service projects. Additional experiences include training with the Education Organizing Institute, and holding various leadership roles during university studies at UCLA, where Yajaira earned a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and Chicana/o Studies.
