Heather Shelby has extensive work experience in digital advocacy and grassroots organizing. Heather is currently working as the Digital Director at United for Respect since December 2021. Prior to this, they worked at Compassion & Choices as the Digital Advocacy Director from October 2020 to December 2021. In this role, they managed a team that implemented online initiatives for federal and state advocacy using various digital methods. Heather also reorganized the team structure to create more equity in workload and implemented campaign planning structures to ensure clarity in goals.
Before joining Compassion & Choices, Heather worked at the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) for several years. Heather held various roles, including Program Manager for Grassroots Organizing & Activism from April 2017 to October 2020. During this time, Heather expanded a grassroots program to five additional states and hosted EDF's first-ever membership-level national fly-in. Heather also served as the Activism & Engagement Project Manager from April 2015 to April 2017, where they created a brand-level offline grassroots pilot program and oversaw online organizing efforts.
Prior to their roles at EDF, Heather was an Online Activist Coordinator from April 2012 to April 2015, where they led strategy for state and federal online advocacy campaigns. Heather also served as an Online Membership Associate from September 2008 to April 2012, managing social media accounts, list acquisition, and email responses.
Heather's earliest role was as an Account Manager at DCS Services, LLC from September 2007 to August 2008.
