Caridad Canales

Caridad Canales is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in environmental policy and management within various United Nations entities. Currently serving as Deputy Secretary of the Commission at United Nations ESCAP since November 2021, Caridad previously held the position of Programme Management Officer at UN Biodiversity, where responsibilities included managing programmes on Agricultural and Inland Waters Biodiversity and contributing to the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. Prior roles at United Nations ESCAP involved supporting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and conducting ocean governance research. Caridad's earlier experience includes working as an Economic Affairs Officer at the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, focusing on sustainable water resource management, and engaging corporate partnerships at Earthwatch Institute to align business practices with sustainability. Educational qualifications include a Master's degree from the University of Oxford in Environmental Change and Management, along with various post-graduate studies related to environmental sciences and policy.
