Mitchell Hsieh has extensive experience in communications and knowledge management, currently serving as Chief of Communications and Knowledge Management, Secretary, and Deputy Secretary of the Commission at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific since June 2009. Previous roles include Programme Officer and Public Information Officer within the same organization, as well as a Public Information Officer at the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate from July 2005 to June 2009 and at the United Nations from March 1999 to June 2005. Earlier in their career, Mitchell Hsieh worked as an Associate Research Editor at Reader's Digest from 1994 to 1996. Educational qualifications include a Master of Science in Journalism and a Bachelor of Science in Journalism, both from Northwestern University's Medill School.

The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is the most inclusive intergovernmental platform in the Asia-Pacific region. The Commission promotes cooperation among its 53 member States and 9 associate members in pursuit of solutions to sustainable development challenges. ESCAP is one of the five regional commissions of the United Nations.
