Petra Nahmias

Chief Of Population And Social Statistics Section at United Nations ESCAP

Petra Nahmias currently holds the position of Chief of Population and Social Statistics Section at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) since February 2020. Prior to this role, Petra served as a Senior Statistician at UNHCR from April 2016 to February 2020 and worked as a Population Affairs Officer with the United Nations from April 2012 to April 2016. Petra's earlier experience includes serving as a Statistical Adviser at DFID from June 2008 to April 2012, and as a Demographer and Branch Chief at the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics from April 2000 to July 2004. Additionally, Petra was an International Fellow at Ngee Ann Polytechnic from September 1997 to January 1999. Petra holds a PhD in Sociology and Demography from Princeton University, an MA in Demography from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and a BSc in Environmental Science from Queen Mary University of London.
