Ahmed Marii, PhD, currently serves as the Head of the OCHA Qatar Office at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs since July 2023. Prior to this role, Ahmed held several positions within the United Nations from December 2017 to July 2023, including Coordinator of the External Relations and Cooperation for the Office of the Special Envoy for Yemen and Advisor for the Black Sea Grain Initiative. Additional experience includes serving as Senior Advisor for Communication and International Relations at Qatar Foundation for Social Work in 2017, Political Advisor/Head of Ops for the League of Arab States Mission to the United Nations from January 2015 to March 2017, and Head of Operations and Coordination for the EU/UNDP/LAS joint project focused on crisis response from February 2012 to January 2015. Earlier roles include Coordinator of the Military Observer Mission in Syria and Political Officer in the Cabinet of the Secretary General at the League of Arab States from July 2006 to February 2012.
