URI (United Religions Initiative)
Despina Namwembe serves as the Regional Coordinator for the United Religions Initiative (URI) Great Lakes since August 2008 and has held the position of Coordinator for URI Women's Initiative in Africa since March 2012. In this role, Despina Namwembe coordinates grassroots women's efforts across various African countries, focusing on leadership development, storytelling, and establishing partnerships with global, regional, and national organizations. Despina Namwembe previously worked as the Regional Coordinator for URI in the Great Lakes region from 2006 to 2012 and served as a Program Officer for Women and Youth at the Uganda Joint Christian Council from January 2000 to January 2002. Educationally, Despina Namwembe holds two Master's degrees in Peace and Conflict Studies from Makerere University, attained between 2011 and 2013.
