Dominic Lemieux

Director District 5 at United Steelworkers

Quebec director of Steelworkers (District 5) since April 2020, he was previously assistant to director Alain Croteau and coordinator on the North Shore. Dominic is also the Vice-President of the Quebec Federation of Labor (FTQ) and a member of the Board of Directors of the Fonds de solidarité FTQ.

Originally from Bas-Richelieu, he is the father of Alexandre and Francis.

Trained in ore extraction and processing, he began his career in the gold mines in Abitibi, before returning to work at the Stelco steel mill in Contrecoeur (now ArcelorMittal). He quickly became interested in health and safety and then got involved in the executive committee, before being named representative of the United Steelworkers in 2008. He also traveled across Quebec with the recruitment service team Steelworkers.

He has led important large-scale negotiations with multinationals, including Rio Tinto, Alcoa, Lafarge, ArcelorMittal, Glencore and many others.

Holder of a health and safety certificate from the Université de Montréal, he also participated in the Trade Union Program at Harvard University in Boston.

President of the Jeunes FTQ committee from 2007 to 2009, Dominic played a leading role in the demands that led to the banning of orphan clauses in pension and insurance plans in 2018.

District 5 headquarters are in Montreal, Quebec.
