Kathryn Firmin-Sellers

Executive Vice President & Chief Impact Officer at United Way of Greater Charlotte

Kathryn Firmin-Sellers has a diverse work experience in non-profit organizations and education. Kathryn currently holds the position of Executive Vice President & Chief Impact Officer at the United Way of Greater Charlotte since 2018. Prior to this role, they served as the Chief Impact Officer at the same organization from December 2018 to July 2023.

Before joining the United Way, Kathryn held various positions at Safe Alliance from 2013 to 2018, including Chief Operating Officer, Chief Strategy Officer, and Director of Process Improvement. In these roles, they led the development and implementation of the organization's strategic plans, coordinated grant solicitation initiatives, and guided continuous improvement initiatives.

From 2007 to 2013, Kathryn worked at United Family Services as the Region Director, overseeing program development, marketing, and fund development. Prior to that, they served as a Senior Relationship Manager at the United Way of Central Carolinas from 2005 to 2007, managing fund distribution and providing support to member agencies.

Kathryn's career began as an Associate Professor at Indiana University from 1993 to 2000.

Kathryn Firmin-Sellers pursued their higher education in the field of Political Science. From 1983 to 1987, they attended Carleton College and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Political Science and French. Following their undergraduate studies, Kathryn Firmin-Sellers advanced their education at Duke University. Starting in 1987 and ending in 1993, they pursued a Ph.D. at Duke University, specializing in Political Science.
