Mauricio Santos Vega is an accomplished academic and researcher with a focus on the ecology of infectious disease. Currently serving as an Assistant Professor at Universidad de Los Andes since August 2018, Mauricio investigates the influences of climate, species interactions, and global change on infectious disease dynamics. Additionally, as a Senior Technical Advisor for Health and Climate at the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre since July 2023, Mauricio provides expert guidance on implementing Early Action Protocols and Anticipatory Actions related to climate hazards and health. Prior experience includes roles as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Chicago and a Graduate Student Researcher at the University of Michigan, where Mauricio earned a Master of Science and later a Doctor of Philosophy in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Contributions to the field also include work as a Junior Researcher at Conservation International and a Data Analyst at the Departamento Nacional de Planeación.
