Gilberto J. Marxuach Torrós

Gilberto J. Marxuach Torrós is the tenth president of the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón. He was appointed on August 4, 2014. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and Yale University School of Law. He began his professional career as a legal officer for the then Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico, Hon. Federico Hernández Denton.

He worked for ten years at the McConnell Valdés law firm. At the time of his departure from the firm, he was an equity partner in the Litigation Department, director of the Recruitment and Business Development Committees, and a member of the Practice Management Committee.

He ran his family's business for several years and in 2009 became the main legal advisor to the then Governor of Puerto Rico, Luis G. Fortuño. He worked directly with multiple education issues, including ensuring the Puerto Rico Department of Education's compliance with all federal regulations.

Before his appointment at the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, he worked on a number of important projects, such as leading the negotiation with the United States Department of Justice for the Police Reform of Puerto Rico. During his professional career, he has always been linked to issues in the field of education and now has the privilege of presiding over the oldest educational institution in Puerto Rico.
