Vinoy Thomas

Vinoy Thomas currently serves as the President of the Alabama Academy of Science and has been with the University of Alabama at Birmingham since February 2007, holding positions such as Co-Director of the Advanced Materials Characterization Institutional Core, Assistant Professor, and Core-Faculty Member in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering. Vinoy Thomas specializes in teaching and research focused on Polymers, Healthcare Materials, Polymer Composites, Nanoscale Polymers, Biomaterials, and Nanocomposites. Additionally, Vinoy Thomas has extensive experience in advising students as the Graduate Program Director, where responsibility includes recruitment, mentoring, and facilitating successful degree completion. Previous roles include Research Scientist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology and Postdoctoral positions at The University of Alabama at Birmingham and Friedrich-Schiller University. Vinoy Thomas earned a PhD in Biomaterials Science & Technology from the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology.
