Andrés Merino-Restrepo

Graduate Research Assistantship Fellow at University of Alberta

Andrés Merino-Restrepo is a dedicated researcher currently serving as a Graduate Research Assistantship Fellow at the University of Alberta since September 2018, focusing on the Alberta Biojet Initiative to enhance LTH technology for Biojet applications. With extensive experience as a Research Scientist at Grupo de Investigación SIRYTCOR since December 2011 and a Research Intern at Mitacs from September 2018 to September 2019, Andrés has contributed to significant projects involving biorefining conversions and the utilization of fungal biodiversity for environmental benefits. Previous roles include serving as a Young Researcher and Innovator for Peace with Colciencias, engaging in projects centered on the degradation of synthetic pollutants, and recognizing individual fungal species' capabilities. Educationally, Andrés is pursuing a PhD in Agriculture, Food & Nutritional Sciences at the University of Alberta, having completed an MSc in Biotechnology and a degree in Biological Engineering from Universidad Nacional de Colombia.
