Atif Shahzad

Assistant Professor (medical Technologies)| Programme Lead Msc Biomedical Innovation at University of Birmingham

Atif Shahzad is an Assistant Professor of Medical Technologies and Programme Lead for the MSc Biomedical Innovation at the University of Birmingham since February 2021. As Director of the Smart Sensors Lab since July 2018, Atif has extensive experience in signal processing and image reconstruction, particularly in microwave imaging for breast cancer detection. Previously, Atif held various research positions at the National University of Ireland, Galway from September 2011 to April 2023, contributing significantly to microwave breast imaging technologies and undergraduate supervision. Earlier roles include Research Associate at COMVIS Research Group and Lecturer at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, where Atif taught multiple engineering subjects. Atif holds a PhD in Medical Electronic Engineering from the University of Galway, an MS in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Leeds, and a BS in Computer Engineering from COMSATS University, along with a diploma in Computer Technology from the Swedish Institute of Technology.
