Matthew Evans has a diverse and extensive work experience in the entertainment industry. Matthew started their career as a Carpenter and Scenic Artist for River City Scenic Inc, where they built and painted scenery for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and various clients. Matthew then worked as a Scenic Designer and Scenic Artist for the Heartland Festival at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, creating visual designs and sketches for set plans.
Evans later became the Technical Director at Barter Theatre, overseeing productions in three different venues. Matthew also served as the Production Manager, Technical Director, Scenic Designer, and Scenic Artist for LaComedia Dinner Theatre for 14 years. In this role, they managed the artistic development of over 65 productions, including design, construction, installation, and painting.
Evans also worked at Opera Saratoga as the Production Manager and Technical Director, coordinating festival needs and overseeing the entire technical staff. Additionally, they have experience as a Lighting Designer and Director of Production for the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, creating new works and going on an international tour.
Currently, Evans holds multiple roles at the University of Dayton, including Boll Theatre Operations Manager and Technical Director. Matthew is also a Lecturer in the Theatre, Dance, and Performance Technology Program, teaching theoretical and practical concentrations in acting, applied theatre, dance, and performance technology.
Matthew Evans graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts from Teikyo Marycrest University in 1994. Matthew also obtained additional certifications including OSHA 10 General Industry Safety and Health from OSHA in 2015, and Genie Lift Trainer and Operator from Genie - a Terex brand in 2011.
