John Long

EVP & COO at University of Delaware

John Long is currently the Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer at University of Delaware. Prior to this, they were the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at University of South Florida from January 2011 to August 2018.

Some of their notable accomplishments at USF include turning a $91 million financial statement book loss into a $27 million profit in just three years, being selected by the Board of Trustees to lead the effort of spinning off a regional campus into the 12th State University in Florida, and developing a program for the largest Public/Private Partnership (P3) in state university history.

Under Long's leadership, USF has seen significant growth and achievements. John has instilled new initiatives for public safety, resulting in a 60% decrease in crime rates, and worked with U.S. Special Operations Command to create a campus classified research facility. John has also been instrumental in increasing graduation and retention rates at USF.

Long is a dedicated and experienced administrator who has demonstrated success in leading complex organizations. John is committed to student success and to improving the overall operations of the University of Delaware.

John Long attended the Graduate School of Education at Harvard University for their Institute for Educational Management Program. John also has a MS in Strategic Studies from USAF Air War College and a MA in Human Resource Management from Webster University. Their BA is in Business Management from University of South Florida. John Long is also a member of the University of Delaware Investment Committee and St Mary's high school.

John Long reports to Dennis Assanis, President. They work with Fatimah Conley - VP, Institutional Equity & Chief Diversity Officer, Mary Remmler - SVP, CFO, and Glenn Carter - Vice President for Communications and Marketing.
