Blair H. Smith

Blair H. Smith is a distinguished academic and medical professional currently serving as a Professor of Population Health Science at the University of Dundee since August 2011. In addition, Blair is the Clinical Director at the Tayside Clinical Trials Unit and works as a Consultant in Pain Medicine for NHS Tayside, focusing on chronic pain management and service improvement. Blair also held the position of National Lead Clinician for Chronic Pain with the Scottish Government from May 2014 to May 2021 and served as a General Practitioner at Peterhead Medical Practice from 2003 to 2013. Prior academic roles include Professor of Primary Care Medicine at the University of Aberdeen and Deputy Head of Academic General Practice. Blair’s military experience includes serving as a Surgeon Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Navy from December 2000 to August 2005. Educational qualifications include an MB ChB from the University of Glasgow, an M.D. in Epidemiology of Chronic Pain from the University of Aberdeen, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
