Maya Brooks

Graduate Research Assistant at University of Georgia

Maya Brooks is an experienced exhibition assistant currently working at the Atlanta History Center since August 2022, contributing to the development of a new exhibition on Margaret Mitchell through research, writing, and editing. Previously, Brooks served as an acquisitions apprentice at The University of Georgia Press, where responsibilities included drafting correspondence and identifying qualified readers for manuscripts. Additional experience includes a role as an assistant museum archivist at the CDC, where Maya collected and archived materials related to the COVID-19 pandemic, and a graduate research assistantship focused on genealogical research at the University of West Georgia. Brooks has also completed internships in museum education and political outreach, and possesses multiple degrees in history and related fields from respected institutions. Currently pursuing a PhD in History and a graduate certificate in African-American/Black Studies, Brooks is dedicated to advancing knowledge and public engagement through historical research and exhibition curation.
