Marlies Hesselman

Co-editor Of Yearbook Of International Disaster Law at University of Groningen

Marlies Hesselman is an accomplished Assistant Professor in Public International Law at Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, having joined the faculty in 2009. Hesselman teaches extensively in the areas of public international law, human rights law, international environmental law, and international climate law, overseeing over 15 courses in the English-language LLB and LLM programs. Additionally, Hesselman serves as Co-Editor of the Yearbook of International Disaster Law and has held significant roles in various organizations, including as a board member for Stichting Femina and as a human rights expert for the Dutch section of the International Commission of Jurists. Hesselman's previous experience includes legal counsel at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, volunteer advising for asylum law, and project coordination at International Bridges to Justice in China. Hesselman holds a PhD and multiple LLM degrees from the University of Groningen, as well as a Bachelor's degree from Leiden University.
