Alex Wheldon has over 20 years of work experience in various marketing and communications roles. Currently, Alex is the Head of Strategic Communications and Marketing at the University of Leicester, where they are responsible for the strategic marketing and communications of Space Park Leicester. Prior to this, Alex served as a Marketing and Communications Manager for the College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities at the University of Leicester.

Before joining the University of Leicester, Alex worked as a Communications Manager at Kidney Research UK, where they managed the communication team, developed PR strategies, and oversaw the charity's supporter magazine and press office.

Alex also has experience working at Cummins Inc., where they held multiple roles, including Global Marketing Communications Manager, Intellectual Property Brand Manager, Marketing Coordinator, and Global Commodity Manager. In these positions, Alex led global marketing communications efforts, managed brand portfolios, developed brand propositions, and oversaw sourcing and expenditure for electronics commodities.

Earlier in their career, Alex worked as a Buyer at ABALOID PLASTICS LIMITED and completed a Marketing Communications Placement at Caterpillar Inc.

Alex Wheldon received a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree in Engineering/Industrial Management from the University of Liverpool in the years 1997 to 2001. In 2014, Alex pursued Advanced Copywriting from CIM | The Chartered Institute of Marketing. Prior to that, in 2013, Alex completed Principles of Great Copywriting from the same institute, and also obtained a Six Sigma Green Belt from Cummins Inc. and a Level 3 Award in Leadership and Management from the Institute of Leadership and Management. In 2012, Alex obtained a QUA3900 Project Management Certificate from Cummins Inc. Furthermore, Alex completed Planning and Managing PR Campaigns from CIPR Qualifications in 2015, and Digital Marketing from CIM | The Chartered Institute of Marketing in 2014.
