Anila Karunakar

Anila Karunakar has a strong background in diversity and inclusion work in various educational institutions. Anila is currently the Director for Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Maine, a position they have held since July 2019. Prior to this, they served as the Coordinator of Intercultural Student Engagement at the University of Southern Maine from February 2017 to June 2019. Anila also has experience working at Taylor University as the Assistant Director Office of Intercultural Programs from July 2010 to May 2014, where they focused on the personal and social growth of American Ethnic and International students. Anila began their career as the Intercultural Affairs Coordinator at Northwestern College, Iowa, where they worked from May 2002 to May 2010, focusing on racial reconciliation and advising international students.

Anila Karunakar obtained a Master's degree in Higher Education/Higher Education Administration from Geneva College between 2008 and 2010. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Education from Northwestern College from 1998 to 2002. Anila also holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Elementary Education and Teaching from Northwestern College, although the specific years of attainment are not provided.
