David O'Brochta

David O'Brochta is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Maryland, where a career has been dedicated to higher education and research in basic and applied molecular genetics, specifically in relation to insects that transmit human pathogens and parasites. O'Brochta has also held the position of Senior Technical Expert and Technical Lead for Gene Drive Research at the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health from August 2017 until December 2023. O'Brochta's educational background includes a Ph.D. in Developmental and Cell Biology from UC Irvine, postdoctoral research in Plant Molecular Biology at UC San Diego, and Molecular Entomology at USDA, ARS, along with a B.S. in Entomology from The University of Kansas.
