One of Tennessee's premier research institutions, the University of Memphis celebrated its centennial in 2012. The university sponsors several long-standing athletic programs, as well. The Tigers' men's basketball team is a perennial NCAA Tournament contender, having earned a berth nearly every year since 2003. The university provides several scholarships, all of which are based on ACT/SAT scores and high school GPA. Other financial aid opportunities are open to students who don't qualify for scholarships, such as student employment and government aid programs.
