Amy Cohn

Amy Cohn, Ph.D., has been appointed as Michigan Medicine’s chief transformation officer, in addition to her current role as professor and faculty director of the Center for Healthcare Engineering and Patient Safety (CHEPS) within the College of Engineering.

In this new role, Cohn will bring her expertise in engineering techniques to improve operations and problem solving in the health care area. She will lead a health care operational engineering team that will collaborate with executive leadership to define project priorities, provide rapid response to critical operational events, and improve outcomes by studying and implementing process re-design and enhancements. This appointment began June 1 and will be a renewable five-year tenure.

Last year, Cohn played a critical role in scaling and implementing COVID-19 testing and vaccinations on the U-M campus and at Michigan Medicine. She has also been an instrumental leader in the evolution of the ResponsiBLUE app to ensure safety as employees and students access the campus wide facilities. Her ability to drive large and complex projects, many new to the organization, and her unique engineering perspective were the predominant factors that led Michigan Medicine to create the chief transformation officer appointment.
