Vipin Kumar has extensive experience in academia, having served as a Regents Professor and William Norris Chair in Large Scale Computing at the University of Minnesota from August 1989 to June 2015. Kumar's research focuses on data mining, high-performance computing, and their applications in climate, ecosystems, and biomedical fields. As the Lead Principal Investigator for a significant $10 Million NSF-funded project titled "Understanding Climate Change - A Data Driven Approach," Kumar is at the forefront of integrating computational techniques with environmental science. Prior to this, Kumar held positions at the University of Maryland as a Professor and Head from January 1979 to January 1982. Academic qualifications include a PhD in computer science from the University of Maryland and a Master of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Philips International Institute.
