Amber Fite-Morgan

General Counsel at University of North Alabama

Amber Fite-Morgan is the current General Counsel at the University of North Alabama. Prior to this, they served as the General Counsel at Northeastern State University from November 2005 to July 2015. In this role, they oversaw the protection, advancement, and advocacy of the university’s legal rights and responsibilities as chief legal officer. Amber advised university administrators on all legal matters in support of the university’s mission, vision, and values. Amber also monitored legislation and court decisions affecting the university. Amber selected, retained, and managed outside counsel; worked hand in hand with the governing board, Regional University System of Oklahoma (RUSO), and general counsel as well as the Office of the Oklahoma Attorney General on NSU litigation.

Some key accomplishments during their time at Northeastern State University include creating and establishing the General Counsel Office in response to increased attention to complex legal needs. Amber successfully reduced legal issues and mitigated liability while improving ability to coordinate legal affairs and strengthen partnerships within the campus community. In addition, they managed difficult litigation involving a racial discrimination claim, with jury awarding favorable verdict. Amber also coordinated successful defense and negotiation of complaints filed with the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights. Lastly, they achieved settlement agreements in numerous lawsuits; negotiated severance agreements and managed exit for difficult employees.

Amber Fite-Morgan has earned both a Doctor of Law (J.D.) from The University of Tulsa College of Law and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Mass Communications from Northeastern State University.

Amber Fite-Morgan reports to Kenneth D. Kitts, President. and Marjorie A. Green - Assistant to the General Counsel reports to Amber Fite-Morgan. They are on a team with Hillary Coats - Associate Director, Graduate Operations, Ross C. Alexander - Provost & EVP for Academic Affairs, and Candace C. Arnold - Operations Manager.
