Michael P. Strysick began his role as UNC Asheville’s chief university communication and marketing officer in 2022. In addition to extensive professional experience leading high-level efforts focused on integrated strategic communication, marketing, public relations and branding, he brings skills in crisis communication, executive messaging, undergraduate recruitment and fundraising.

He joined UNC Asheville after 11 years at Centre College, a selective national liberal arts college located in Danville, KY. As chief communications officer, Strysick oversaw the critical communication and marketing functions, supported the College’s strategic plan and key leadership initiatives, as well as implemented major public relations campaigns to increase the College’s visibility. His time at Centre included hosting 2,400 media personnel from 41 countries for the 2012 Vice Presidential Debate between Joe Biden and Paul Ryan. After receiving his B.A. in art history and philosophy at the University of Minnesota at Morris, Strysick earned his M.A. in philosophy and Ph.D. in comparative literature at Binghamton University, SUNY. He also completed postdoctoral work at Yale University as an NEH Fellow and earned a certificate from the Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program through MIT’sSloan School of Management.
