Rachel Ewing's work experience begins in 2005 at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where they worked as a Science Writer and Research Assistant. Rachel then moved on to work as a Program Leader and Science Educator at the Park Management Program for Youth at the Cobbs Creek Community Environmental Education Center in 2007. From 2008 to 2011, Rachel worked at Penn Medicine as the Manager of New Media Communications, where they developed and led online strategic communications initiatives. Rachel then worked at Drexel University from 2011 to 2015 as a Science and Health News Officer, managing media relations and performing research news publicity. In 2015, Rachel returned to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as a Medical and Science Writer/Editor. In 2016, Rachel took on the role of Adjunct Instructor for Science Writing at Drexel University. Since 2016, Rachel has been working at Penn Medicine, starting as the Editor for Penn Medicine magazine and later becoming the Editorial Director. In July 2021, they were promoted to Senior Editorial Director. In this role, they manage the production of Penn Medicine magazine and provides editorial oversight for all Penn Medicine publications. Rachel also manages the communications department's digital communications portfolio and leads the publications team.
Rachel Ewing received their Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Environmental Studies from Brandeis University from 1998 to 2002. Later, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Publication Management from Drexel University in 2011-2012. Additionally, they completed a Master of Science degree in Science Communication from Drexel University in 2006-2007.
