Elsa Varela is an experienced cataloging librarian with a diverse background in library and information science. Currently serving as the Special Collections Cataloging Librarian at the University of Pennsylvania since November 2009, Elsa is involved in cataloging the Miscellaneous Print Collection and has previously worked on medical theses for the university's Medical Dissertation Digital Library. Elsa has also coordinated the Gotham Book Mart Collection processing and held various roles at Historical Society of Pennsylvania, including Rights and Reproductions Coordinator and Project Digitization Technician. With internships and assistant roles at multiple institutions, Elsa has developed a strong foundation in digitization and cataloging practices, supported by a Master’s degree in Library & Information Science from Drexel University and a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies from the University of South Carolina.
