Vice Chancellor for Medical Colleges & Health Sciences & Dean of College of Medicine at University of Sharjah

Dr Hamid is Professor of Medicine, Vice Chancellor for Medical & Health Sciences Colleges, and Dean of College of Medicine at the University of Sharjah. He was until 2016 the Strauss chair of Respiratory Medicine and the Director of the Meakins Christie Institute at McGill University, Canada which is one of the beast universities in North America.

Dr. Hamid has published over 590 scientific articles in prestigious international journals and has contributed more than 150 chapters and review articles. He is the editor of 2 textbooks for Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology and Respiratory Physiology. He has been a visiting professor worldwide at Universities in Japan, USA and Europe, Dr. Hamid has served in many advisory committees in Canada and the UAE.

Dr Hamid has received many awards including Best Clinical Scientist in Canada award, Distinguished Respiratory scientist award in the USA and was selected to be one of the very few respiratory clinicians to be a Fellow of Royal Society. He recently received Hamdan Bin Rashid Medical Prize.

Dr Hamid is well known internationally for his work in the area of Asthma and COPD and recently in the areas of Covid–19 and many of his original research programs have been translated or in the process of been translated to clinical practice. ​
