Jed Lyons

Jed Lyons is a retired Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of South Carolina, where a career spanned over three decades, beginning in August 1990. In addition to teaching and conducting research focused on engineering materials, manufacturing processes, and design, Jed held leadership roles such as Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, emphasizing undergraduate student success through outreach and academic program oversight. As Faculty Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence, Jed contributed to the professional development of educators across the university system. Prior experience includes work as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where research centered on structure-property relationships in advanced materials, and as an Engineer at Harris Corporation, providing technical support for aerospace systems. Jed earned a PhD, MSME, and BME in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
