Jo James

Jo James has extensive experience at the University of Southampton, beginning in October 1989. Currently serving as the Interim Head of the Public Engagement with Research unit, Jo leads strategic initiatives to foster a culture of engaged research. Previous roles include Public Engagement Manager and Professional Services Lead within the same unit. Additionally, Jo manages the Doctoral College Professional Development Programme, coordinating courses and events aimed at enhancing transferable skills and employability for doctoral researchers. Earlier positions include Manager of the Researcher Development & Graduate Centre and Graduate School Coordinator for the Faculty of Engineering, Science & Mathematics. Jo began at the university as an Administrative Officer in the Faculty of Engineering and later served as Assistant Registrar in the Faculty of Law. Jo holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Kent at Canterbury, earned between 1982 and 1985, and completed secondary education at Cowes High School on the Isle of Wight.
