Alberta Comer is the current Dean and Director of the Marriott Library at the University of Utah. Alberta has held this position since July 2018. Prior to that, they served as the Interim Executive Director of the Eccles Health Sciences Library from October 2015 to June 2017. From September 2011 to September 2019, they were the Associate Dean for Research and Learning Services at the J. Willard Marriott Library.
Before their time at the University of Utah, Comer was the Director of Science & Engineering Libraries at the University of Michigan from December 2006 to November 2011. From January 1995 to October 2006, they were the Head of Science & Engineering Library at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Comer began their career at the National Library of Medicine (NLM) in September 1989 as the Grateful Med Coordinator. In December 1987, they became an NLM Associate.
In their educational career, Alberta Comer earned a Master's in Library Science from Indiana University Bloomington and a BSN in Nursing from Mount St. Joseph University.
