Jeff Herring

VP and Chief Human Resources Officer at University of Utah

Jeff Herring is currently the VP and Chief Human Resources Officer at University of Utah. Jeff has over 20 years of experience in human resources and has held various leadership positions throughout their career.

Prior to their current role, Jeff served as the Executive Director of the Utah Department of Human Resource Management from 2002 to 2013. In this role, Jeff was responsible for overseeing the state's human resources function, which included benefits, payroll, and employee relations.

Before their work with the state of Utah, Jeff was an Associate Attorney at the Law Office of Phillip W. Dyer. In this role, they provided legal counsel to clients on a variety of issues related to employment law.

Jeff is a member of the U of U Young Alumni Association and has served on the organization's board since 2006. Jeff is also a member of the Society for Human Resource Management and the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

Jeff Herring has a BA in Theirtory from the University of Utah, an MBA in Human Resources from the University of Phoenix, and a Juris Doctorate from California Western School of Law. Jeff has also completed Executive Education programs in Leadership Best Practices and Driving Government Performance from Harvard Business School and Harvard Kennedy School, respectively.

They work with Erin Rothwell - Interim Vice President for Research, David Perrin - Dean, College of Health, and Natalie Gochnour - Senior Advisor to the President. Jeff Herring reports to Taylor R. Randall, University President.
