Wyatt Rory Hume

Dean, School of Dentistry at University of Utah

Wyatt Rory Hume is the current Dean of the School of Dentistry at the University of Utah. Wyatt has also served as the Executive Director of Education, Training and Development for Qatar Foundation, and as Provost for both the United Arab Emirates University and the University of California.

Born in England, Hume earned their undergraduate degree from the University of Edinburgh before moving to the United States to earn their PhD from Vanderbilt University. Wyatt began their academic career as a faculty member at Vanderbilt, where they eventually rose to the rank of Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.

In 2005, Hume was recruited to serve as Vice President for Health Affairs at the University of California. In this role, they oversaw all aspects of the university's health care system, including its four hospitals and seventeen clinics. Wyatt also worked to improve the quality of care and increase access to care for underserved populations. In 2008, they were also named Provost and Executive Vice President, making him the chief academic and chief operating officer of the university.

Hume left the University of California in 2012 to take on a new challenge at Qatar Foundation. In this role, they were responsible for supporting graduate research training programs and enhancing human capabilities in research. Wyatt also oversaw the Qatar Science Leadership Program.

After two years in Qatar, Hume returned to academia, this time as Provost at the United Arab Emirates University. In this role, they worked to improve the quality of teaching and research at the nation's leading university.

Hume returned to the United States in 2014 to take on their current role as Dean of the School of Dentistry at the University of Utah. Wyatt has also served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the university's medical school.

Wyatt Rory Hume attended McClaren Vale Primary School and Pulteney Grammar School before completing a BSC (Dent) at the University of Adelaide. Wyatt then went on to complete a BDS and a PhD in Human Physiology and Pharmacology at the University of Adelaide. Wyatt is currently a DDSc in Dental research at the University of Adelaide.

They are on a team with Erin Rothwell - Interim Vice President for Research, Michael L. Good - SVP, Health Sciences, and Jason Perry - VP, Government Relations. Wyatt Rory Hume reports to Taylor R. Randall, University President.
